The Zirbaghali is a small folk instrument of Afghan origin, and the name translates as "under the arm". It is generally made of clay or fruitwood. I carved this one from Mulberry wood gathered in Brooklyn's Prospect Park. I credit this instrument with influencing me to play more melodically. Sometimes you don't know what's possible until it has already happened.
